Right this minute I am at school, in the computer lab, dressed as a semi-sexy Jedi Knight. (The semi is because my tunic doesn't like to stay all the way closed, so I has cleavage.)
Tomorrow the costume gets ironed and whipped out for a second time, except the second iteration will include a rainbow-striped hair extension braided and stuck behind my ear, as well as a big purple button on my tunic that says "SOMEONE YOU KNOW IS GAY".
Yes, that's right, I'm going as a Prideawan.
I am intensely disappointed in my campus because I have seen absolutely no one else in costume. Not even a single tasteless zombie Michael Jackson. COME ON, GUYS, I HAD SUCH HIGH HOPES FOR YOU.
Anyway.
Tonight the fam is all going out to see a mostly-dance-with-some-spoken-word version of Dracula, and last Sunday
heerojf and I went to see Evil Dead: The Musical (where we got absolutely covered in cherry kool-aid), so all in all it's been a pretty festive week.
Tomorrow I might just stay in and re-watch Revenge of the Sith and Return of the Jedi--FOR SCHOOL, EVEN. In my English 101 class (which is pretty much a thorough retread of stuff I did in middle school--though I'm not really complaining since half of my classmates speak English as a second language) we have to do a compare and contrast essay.
So I'm doing mine on how Episodes 3 and 6 correspond to events in Joseph Campbell's monomyth.
FINALLY A FANDOM TERM PAPER THANK YOU GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
So who's got actual exciting plans? :D?

So radio episodes will uh. Take a while because I am Sir Fails-A-Lot of the Kingdom of Failtonia.
HI FRIENDSLIST! TALK TO ME ABOUT WHAT IS EXCITING IN YOUR LIFE, I'M CURIOUS TO HEAR ABOUT IT! :D
Also I would like everybody to know that
hotforbabyleg is a hideous, hideous human being and we are going to be married in the spring.

LJ IS HOSED FOR ME AT HOME. WON'T LOAD WHATSOEVER. I AM IN ANOTHER CITY ON A FRIEND'S LAPTOP AS I TYPE THIS BECAUSE GUESS WHAT, IT'S BEEN AT LEAST 24 HOURS SINCE I COULD GET LJ TO LOAD AT ALL AT HOME.
GOD WTF, LJ, WTAF. I HAVE THINGS TO POST ABOUT.

heerojf's house is intensely entertaining. ♥ Dude can write the hell out of an earth-shattering plot twist!

I'm like the post office: you should probably expect me a couple of days after any official estimated delivery time. Which is to say I got quite a ways through the first episode of the Star Wars radio show and then my uterus went "NO YOU DON'T BITCH".
In the meantime, would someone like to beta some Star Wars fic? :D?

My fandom life is pretty much a big recursive loop: every summer, without fail, I come back to Star Wars.
I could go on about how much and how profoundly I love it, even when I find myself in agreement with Patton Oswalt that George Lucas should be killed at midnight with a shovel, and even when I find myself frustrated by its shortcomings (man, don't even get me started on the extended universe). But it's incredibly hot and humid, and I've walked like a zillion miles today, so as much as I want to ramble about it forever, I'm rationing my energy so I'll cut to the point.
I have the Star Wars radio dramas. The ones that aired on NPR in the 80s, and that have John Lithgow as Yoda.
They are hilarious and amazing and I'm going to be posting episode summaries starting tonight. BECAUSE THE SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER HAS TO COME FROM SOMEWHERE AND IT MIGHT AS WELL BE A LOLZY CLASSIC AMIRITE?

I love that there's a place in the world where you can buy ancient coins (with the "Depraved Emperors" coins separate from the rest) from a tin marked "Currency For Time Travelers", that there are people trading beads and sketches and tarot readings and swapping theories about fannish things everywhere you go for four days.
The best part may well have been getting invited to be a zombie extra in Trailer Park of the Living Dead.

Know what I love about being an adult?
You can buy your cereal based on the toys and shit in the box and nobody gives a fuck.
In related news, I now have a light-up Engineering badge. I'm going to mount this sucker on a pin and wear it on my shirt.
ETA: Oh god, you know what I just realized? Having grown up on TNG, it's always been Just The Way Things Are to me that red = command and yellow = engineering and security. Except apparently in TOS, yellow = command and red = engineering (not sure which one security falls under). How'd that happen, anyway?
It's so cool to come back to an old familiar fandom like this and discover how much I absorbed and how much got past me. and to catch myself talking like scotty in the shower, what the hell guys, i don't even do accents

OKAY. OKAY. FINE. I AM LOOKING UP TIMES FOR STAR TREK RIGHT NOW, GUYS. I WILL GO SEE IT BY MYSELF AND THEN DRAG MY DAD IN HIS STARFLEET UNIFORM FOR VIEWING #2.
In other news, I'm a couple of minutes into the first episode of Dollhouse. I'm already wifing the lady with the scars (especially since she seems so unselfconscious about them), but god, I really wish that bitter lab tech was a woman. I should probably be honest with you guys about something: for all his flaws, I like Joss Whedon. Yes, he can be pretty faily, I recognize that--I'm a Star Wars fan, I have to recognize fail from The Writers That Be--but he's got some interesting ideas, and I have to love him for Kaylee and Zoe if nothing else.

Things I have done this weekend:
* See Wolverine. lololololololol oh my god, four explosions in a row? And about a dozen head-thrown-back, claws-out RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH moments? Ridiculously entertaining. Although Wade being constitutionally unable to shut up, combined with the last twenty minutes or so of the movie, made me hungry for some kind of Deadpool For N00bs guide, because if movie Deadpool was fractionally as awesome as comics Deadpool, I know I'm going to adore him.
* Watch Hairspray twice in the space of 24 hours. :D: I can't help it, it's so cheerful and sweet! And god knows there's not enough of Nikki Blonsky or Elijah Kelley in other areas of my entertainment life. Although now that I know Link is Zac Efron, I fear I may be slipping down the inevitable road of Zefronwifery >:(
* Stress out over my history final only to discover it's Thursday instead of tomorrow. hurr durr.
Things I have not done this weekend:
* See Star Trek. Which I will probably do with my dad, if I can get him to wear his Starfleet uniform and Spock ears. :D
* Had the self-control to keep myself from outlining a paper on American Musicals And The Struggle For Civil Rights. Such amazing BS, so little time.
* Figure out how tf I'm going to pass my math final. Quadratic discriminants >:(
( and a little extra, since I'm not quite up to the detailed frands-only poast )

THINGS I AM DOING TODAY:
*finishing my paper on Milk OKAY MOSTLY FINISHED including a reference to "Proposition 8: The Musical", which will probably cost me a point or two but will be completely worth it
* finishing at least the outlines of all the questions I have to respond to for Like a Hurricane (which is a really awesome book about Native American activism in the 1960s and 70s, and you should all read it, if only for the amazing Alcatraz Proclamation)
* writing up a critique of the dance performance I went to Sunday
THINGS I AM NOT DOING TODAY, NO SIR, NOT ME:
* writing a completely extraneous paper for history which probably wouldn't even merit any extra credit about the musical Assassins and what it has to say about political activism
* running around in the backyard shrieking like a mental patient
* rolling around in the yard of raw silk I bought last week
* shenanigans of any kind
* even thinking about that Assassins paper, seriously it's not a good idea, wtf is wrong with me
WE WHO ARE ABOUT TO WRITE SALUTE YOU

So I'm a little better--I had my uncle take me to the Minute Clinic so a doctor could tell me I wasn't dying, which I really needed--but my sinuses are still going "LOL NO" at me so I'm having a hard time concentrating on writing these assignments for class and FACTORING THESE GODDAMN TRINOMIALS >:( But thanks for the well wishes, guys, I appreciate it a lot. ♥
On a similar note (to the class assignments, at least), I went wikisurfing while making a futile stab at writing my paper on Milk, and I realized we have some very old Anita Bryant records in the house record collection. Since I'm almost certain that it's near impossible to set fire to a record and that burning vinyl will probably make my neighborhood smell like death, I'm at a loss as to what to do with them. Suggestions are very welcome!
(I also want an LJ icon of her getting pied in the face to use for my Captain Angy Reactive Queer posts, but that's neither here nor there.)
Things I've been thinking about lately:
* Ridiculous fics I haven't quite had the courage to write yet. These include a ridiculous fusion of Moulin Rouge and another equally silly, nominally-Victorian-but-full-of-anachron isms movie that a former friend and I started but that I just love too must to totally abandon; a fic where Racer X is wrongly accused of murder and turns to Phoenix Wright, Ace Attorney for his legal defense; and this thing where Leia was raised as the farm girl who really wanted to go to the Tattooine Diplomacy School and Luke was the renegade Alderaanian prince who crashed very expensive speeders all the time. (The upside of that last one is Han going "...well, a woman who's willing to put on stormtrooper armor. om nom nom.")
* Magical Clara-chan. I think I know where I want to go with it, but I'm not a hundred percent sure who I want the villain to be. :/
* Animamma Mia which I can probably finish when I'm done with this class work.
* How the guy who sits next to me in History of Civil Rights, who was proving himself an unbelievable tool up until recently, sort of redeemed himself by remarking how hot women who take charge of their own sexuality are. (The teacher seemed pretty happy with the class's ":3" reaction to flappers.)
* How, out of the three people who responded with a yes when said teacher asked if we'd taken any kind of home ec class, two of them were guys who were totally into home ec because "you get to bake things! And eat them!"

WE DID LEAPS AND ARABESQUES TODAY IN BALLET CLASS. Oh my god, I love leaping, it really does make me feel like a handsome prince in action.
Also, remember that Very Angy Paper I was writing on Iron-Jawed Angels? I got a perfect score on it--and an extra point because, apparently, I'm the first one of his students who pointed out that amazingly obnoxious scene where Alice Paul ties the kid's shoe. Although he did say he was surprised that I didn't complain about how the director excised any lesbian subtext from the movie.
SO APPARENTLY HE CAN SEE PAST MY MILD-MANNERED SOFT BUTCH FACADE TO THE TRUE FACE OF CAPTAIN ANGY REACTIVE QUEER
EDIT: sdjklfds talk about synchronicity. About thirty seconds ago there was a commercial--on Comedy Central, of all places--that basically said "It's not right to pick on gay kids, teens, or adults for being different, so don't be a dick if you see someone getting hassled". :')

HISTORY MIDTERM OVER. One of the extra-credit questions was "Name at least six other students in this class". :D Seriously, I wish you guys could all take this teacher's classes, he's awesome.
Things I've been thinking about lately:
* One of the weird paradoxes brought up by RaceFail '09. I'm lol whitest of bread, but I'd like to incorporate characters of color into my own writing, because I feel like in fantasy one of the few places where "write what you know" applies is sort of damaging and only contributing to a bigger problem. Although if RaceFail has taught me anything, it's that you should always ask and be open to criticism if you think there's any remote potential you might be doing it wrong.
* How massively uncomfortable the gay rights portion of my history of civil rights class is going to be. On the one hand, I'm really excited to learn more about the history of the movement. On the other, there are people in that class who asked what it had to do with civil rights when the teacher mentioned the Prop 8 trial, and it's so personal and makes me so angry and upset that I'm an American only up to the point where I'm different. Which, if you think about it, is really sort of the driving force behind all of the civil rights movements so far... except, idk, apparently it's ~*~different~*~ when it's a ~*~lifestyle~*~ and not skin color or sex. >:(
* My kitchen garden. is fHOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THE ENTIRE PACK OF BABY EGGPLANT SEEDS WOULD SPROUT? Also, since the lone strawberry seedling continues to grow slowly, and since they were $3 at the plant nursery, I bought a strawberry plant with actual flowers and the beginnings of berries.
* What Phantom of the Opera would be like femswapped. idek guys, i've been listening to it and... IMAGINE WHAT AN AWESOME COMMENTARY ON STANDARDS OF FEMININE BEAUTY IT WOULD BE IF THE PHANTOM WAS A WOMAN... or something lol maybe I just have femswap on the brain, WHAT A SURPRISE.
* V For Vendetta would make a great opera.
* Also, it's come to my attention that I need to write a short opera called "The Pot Roast Of Seville".
To conclude: SO HOW ABOUT THAT WATCHMEN MOVIE!
